Lynton
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Treatment in Surrey

Our clinic in Weybridge offers the next generation in IPL treatment using the Lynton Excelight for the reduction of pigmentation and thread veins.

IPL Treatment For Skin Rejuvenation

As we age, uneven skin tone may become more prevalent, resulting in areas of skin discolouration and visibly broken blood vessels (thread veins). Prolonged exposure of the face and hands to the sun’s UV rays over the years can significantly influence the biological structure of the skin and contribute to the acceleration of the ageing process.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy at our clinic in Surrey is an effective solution to rejuvenate your appearance by diminishing pigmented cells and thread veins within the skin.

At Light Touch Clinic Surrey, we use an IPL machine from one of the UK’s leading IPL brands – Lynton Lasers. The Lynton Excelight represents the latest generation of IPL devices, capable of producing incredible results.

During treatment, the device is placed on the surface of the skin and delivers intense pulses of light to generate heat and destroy the pigmented cells. 3 different variations of this rejuvenating treatment are available at our clinic, each treatment promising refreshed and revitalised skin.

Excelight IPL Treatments

Vascular Lesions & Rosacea

This treatment targets vascular concerns to improve the appearance of broken red veins, thread veins, rosacea, poikiloderma of civatte (red/brown discolouration on the side of the neck) and port wine stains.

Pigmentation

Our pigmentation treatment targets the conditions that cause skin discolouration, such as freckles and age spots (also known as sun spots).

Rejuvenation

Our IPL treatment helps to even the tone and texture of the skin, as well as boosting the production of collagen. Fully rejuvenating the skin’s health helps to produce smooth, soft skin, smaller pores, an even tone and softer lines and wrinkles.

IPL: The Science Behind the Results

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) therapy works by delivering broad-spectrum light into the skin, which is absorbed by melanin in pigmented lesions and haemoglobin in visible blood vessels. This light energy is converted into heat, specifically damaging the target while leaving the surrounding tissue unharmed.

The damaged pigment or vessels are then naturally eliminated by the body, leaving the skin tone clearer and more even. Unlike traditional laser treatments that use a single wavelength, IPL offers multiple wavelengths to treat a larger range of skin issues in a single session, making it a versatile, all-in-one solution for pigmentation, redness, and ageing.

IPL Treatment Advice

Before

Avoid sun exposure, sunbeds, and fake tanning products for at least 2–3 weeks beforehand, as tanned skin can increase the risk of adverse reactions. Additionally, at least 3-5 days before treatment, you should avoid using glycolic acid, retinoids, and other exfoliating or photosensitising skincare products.

Arrive at your appointment with clean, makeup-free skin, and let our expert practitioners know of any recent skin treatments, medications, or changes in your health during your consultation.

After

You may notice mild redness, warmth, or swelling, similar to a mild sunburn, which usually goes away within 24 hours. Treated pigmentation may temporarily darken before gradually flaking away over several days.

To protect your results and support healing, apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily, avoid direct sun exposure, and stay away from hot baths, saunas, and intense exercise for 24 – 48 hours. Avoid using active skincare products, such as acids or retinoids, for a few days, and do not pick at any dry or flaking skin.

IPL – Frequently Asked Questions

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a non-invasive skin treatment that uses broad-spectrum light to target various skin issues such as pigmentation, redness, thread veins, and signs of ageing.

Unlike lasers, which emit a single wavelength, IPL uses multiple wavelengths of light to gently heat the skin and break down unwanted pigment or blood vessels. It also promotes collagen production for smoother, more even skin.

Many people are affected by pigmentation issues or an uneven skin tone. The IPL treatment is a popular option that is generally well-suited to various skin types, including sensitive skin.

You may not be recommended for this treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have had significant sun exposure, such as tanning, within 2 to 3 weeks before your treatment.

Light Touch Clinic uses an IPL device by Lynton Lasers, a leading and trusted brand in the UK. Patient safety and well-being are top priorities at the clinic, and every precaution is taken to ensure treatments are delivered with the highest standards of care and efficiency.

IPL is widely regarded as a safe and effective treatment, and all practitioners at Light Touch Clinic go through regular training to stay up to date with the latest technologies and best practices.

This treatment will produce a warming sensation under the skin. Although some patients find this feeling a little uncomfortable, they do not report the treatment as being ‘painful’.

We can apply a numbing cream to help with comfort during the treatment, if the patient feels this would be necessary.

We typically recommend spacing IPL sessions 4 weeks apart to allow the skin enough time to heal and regenerate. This helps maximise the effectiveness of each treatment and ensures safe, steady progress. We will create the perfect treatment plan based on your concerns and goals.

A smoother, more even skin tone can often be achieved through a series of IPL treatments, typically ranging from 1 to 5 sessions, depending on your specific concerns and desired results. The skin may appear visibly younger, brighter, and clearer for an extended period.

During your pre-treatment consultation, your skin will be thoroughly assessed, allowing your practitioner to recommend the most suitable treatment plan and provide guidance on how long the results are likely to last.

Mild swelling and bruising are often seen in patients following this treatment and will usually ease within 12 – 24 hours.

It is common for the skin on the treated area to become darker for up to 1 week, which will return to your normal tone after this time. However, as your treatment course progresses, this period of skin discolouration will get shorter.

IPL results can be long-lasting, especially when combined with a healthy skincare routine and proper sun protection. The longevity of your results depends on your skin type, the concern being treated, and ongoing care. Book a consultation with us to find out how long your results could last.
At our Surrey clinic, IPL can be used to treat a variety of areas, including the face, neck, chest, hands, arms, and legs. It’s particularly effective for sun-damaged skin, age spots, and thread veins on areas regularly exposed to the sun.
Most patients require a course of 1 to 5 sessions spaced a few weeks apart to achieve the best results, with some noticing significant improvements after just one session. The exact number of treatments will depend on the severity of the concern being addressed and how your skin responds.
