Dermal Filler Dissolving Treatment
Dermal filler dissolving reverses hyaluronic acid filler that has migrated, settled unevenly, been overdone, or simply no longer suits you. Led by Dr Natalie Geary, an aesthetic doctor with more than 18 years of experience, the treatment works on any hyaluronic acid filler in any area of the face, regardless of where or when it was placed.
We use hyaluronidase, a prescription enzyme sometimes known by the brand name Hyalase. Injected in small, precise amounts directly into the filler, it breaks the bonds that hold the gel together so your body can absorb it naturally. Most of the change happens within the first 48 hours.

Why People Dissolve Filler
Filler doesn’t always behave. It can drift beyond the area where it was placed, sit too close to the surface, or accumulate over years of top-ups until the overall effect is heavier than anyone intended. Sometimes the work was simply overdone. And sometimes nothing has gone wrong at all; you’ve just changed your mind.
The most common reasons we dissolve filler:
- Migration, where filler moves outside the area it was placed
- Overfilling, from a single heavy treatment or years of top-ups
- Lumps, ridges or unevenness you can see or feel
- Asymmetry between the two sides of the face
- Puffiness or a blue-grey tint under the eyes
- Swelling or firmness appearing months after treatment

Filler Correction and Removal
A large share of the dissolving work we do is correction: reshaping or reversing filler placed at another clinic. There is no judgement; we assess what’s there, explain your options, and only dissolve what actually needs dissolving.
Correction doesn’t always mean removing everything. Softening one overfilled area, evening up asymmetry, or clearing migrated product while leaving well-placed filler alone are all common outcomes. And where you do want complete removal, hyaluronidase can take the area right back to its natural state.

Cheeks
Cheek filler is usually dissolved because of over-projection, heaviness that has crept in over years of top-ups, or filler that has migrated towards the under-eye area. Tear Troughs and Under Eyes
The under-eye area is delicate, and filler placed too superficially or too generously can cause persistent puffiness, fluid retention, or a blue-grey tint known as the Tyndall effect. Nose

Chin and Jawline
Chin and jawline filler is dissolved to correct over-projection, asymmetry, or contours that look sharper than intended. The firmer products used in these areas sometimes take two sessions to break down completely.
Around the Mouth
Filler in the nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and the skin around the lips can be softened or removed where it has become visible, lumpy, or heavier than it should be.

What Can and Can’t Be Dissolved
Hyaluronidase only works on hyaluronic acid fillers. That covers Teoxane, the range we use here, along with Juvederm, Restylane, Belotero and most other mainstream fillers you may have had elsewhere.
HArmonyCa is a special case. It’s a hybrid of hyaluronic acid and calcium hydroxylapatite, so the hyaluronic acid portion responds to hyaluronidase while the calcium-based portion is left to break down naturally over time. More on the product itself on our HArmonyCa page.
Radiesse, Sculptra, silicone and other permanent or semi-permanent fillers can’t be dissolved with hyaluronidase. If you’re not sure what you were given, bring any paperwork from your previous clinic and we’ll help you find out what’s possible during your consultation.
Will Filler Go Away on Its Own?
Eventually, yes. Hyaluronic acid filler is metabolised by the body over time, but eventually can mean a long wait: lip filler typically lasts 6 to 12 months, the denser products used in cheeks, chins and jawlines can stay for 18 months or more, and years of top-ups slow the clock further.
So waiting is an option, just a slow one, and it means living with a result you’re unhappy with in the meantime. Dissolving does in about 48 hours what natural breakdown takes a year or more to do.
The Filler Dissolving Treatment Process
Consultation
Every dissolving treatment starts with a consultation with one of our aesthetic practitioners. We examine the area, go through your filler history, and agree whether full or partial dissolving will give the better result. Partial dissolving is often the right call; removing every trace isn’t always necessary.
Patch test
A small test injection of hyaluronidase in the forearm, with a short wait in clinic to check for any reaction, before we treat the face.
Treatment
Numbing cream is applied, then the hyaluronidase is injected in small, precise amounts directly into the filler. Expect 15 to 45 minutes, depending on how many areas we’re treating.

What to Expect Afterwards & Aftercare
First few hours: the area can briefly look fuller before it looks smaller. The injections themselves cause some swelling, and the enzyme gets to work underneath it. Mild swelling, redness, and tenderness around the injection sites. This is the injection, not the result.
24 to 48 hours: Most of the breakdown happens here. As the swelling starts to settle, you’ll notice the volume reducing.
Days 3 to 7: The area continues to soften and settle, and the true result emerges.
Around two weeks: The enzyme has fully finished working, and the tissues have settled.
For the first 24 hours, leave the area alone: no touching, no makeup, no skincare over the injection sites. Skip strenuous exercise, alcohol, saunas and hot baths for 24 to 48 hours, as heat and raised blood pressure both make swelling worse.
