Lip filler dissolving reverses hyaluronic acid lip filler that has migrated, been overdone, or simply stopped feeling like you. The treatment uses hyaluronidase, a prescription enzyme injected in small amounts directly into the unwanted filler so your body can break it down and clear it naturally, with most of the change coming inside 48 hours.

Why People Dissolve Lip Filler
Lip filler has a way of accumulating. A little more each year, a top-up before every event, until one day the mirror shows lips that are bigger, firmer, or blurrier than anything you actually asked for. Other times a single treatment goes wrong: a lump, a ragged border, one side fuller than the other. And often nothing went wrong at all; tastes change, and the look that felt right before doesn’t now.
The most common reasons we dissolve lip filler:
- Migration, where filler drifts above the lip line into the skin
- Overfilling, from one heavy treatment or years of top-ups
- Lumps, bumps or firmness you can feel
- Asymmetry, side to side or between top and bottom lip
- Filler that never settled properly
- Wanting your natural lips back
Migration and Lip Filler Correction
Hyaluronic acid filler is soft and mobile, and in lips, which move constantly, it can gradually work its way past the vermilion border into the skin above, blurring the edge of the lip and building a puffy shelf under the nose. Once filler has migrated, more filler can’t fix it. Dissolving is the correction.
Lip filler correction doesn’t automatically mean starting from zero, though. In many cases, we dissolve only the migrated product and leave well-placed filler in the body of the lip alone, keeping the volume you like while restoring a crisp lip line.
Partial Dissolving and Lip Neutralisation
As an option, rather than dissolving everything, we can place a small dose of hyaluronidase to neutralise the problem areas, typically migrated filler above the lip line or an uneven patch, while the rest of your filler stays put. It suits people who like their volume but not what the filler has started doing.
Full dissolving is still the right call when the whole result is overdone, when lumps run through the body of the lip, or when you want a genuine reset. Which approach fits is exactly what we discuss in your consultation.
Dissolving and Refilling Your Lips
For a lot of people, dissolving isn’t the end of lip filler; it’s the reset button. Clear out the migrated, overfilled, or uneven product, wait two to four weeks for the tissue to settle, then refill conservatively with a shape that suits your face. Built on a clean base, new lip fillers behave better and look sharper than filler layered over old product.
There’s no obligation in either direction. Some patients refill; others realise their natural lips were the goal all along.
The Lip Filler Dissolving Process
Consultation
Every dissolving treatment starts with a consultation with one of our aesthetic practitioners. We examine the area, go through your filler history, and agree whether full or partial dissolving will give the better result. Partial dissolving is often the right call; removing every trace isn’t always necessary.
Patch test
A small test injection of hyaluronidase in the forearm, with a short wait in clinic to check for any reaction, before we treat the face.
Treatment
Numbing cream is applied, then the hyaluronidase is injected in small, precise amounts directly into the filler. Expect 15 to 30 minutes.
Filler Dissolving
What to Expect Afterwards & Aftercare
First few hours: Swelling, tenderness, and sometimes bruising around the injection sites. Your lips may look fuller than when you walked in. That’s the swelling, not the outcome.
24 to 48 hours: The hyaluronidase does most of its work here. As the swelling eases, you’ll start to see the volume genuinely reducing.
Days 3 to 7: Your lips settle and soften. Some people notice a deflated or slightly crepey texture during this window; it’s temporary.
Around two weeks: The enzyme has finished, the tissue has settled, and what you see is the true result.
For the first 24 hours, leave the area alone: no touching, no makeup, no skincare over the injection sites. Skip strenuous exercise, alcohol, saunas and hot baths for 24 to 48 hours, as heat and raised blood pressure both make swelling worse.
