Our clinic in Weybridge specialises in bespoke lip filler dissolving treatments administered by our leading aesthetic doctors.

Lip Filler Dissolving Treatment

Led by Dr. Geary, with over 17 years of experience in aesthetic medicine, our dermal filler dissolving treatment is used to correct an uneven or lumpy appearance and restore the natural shape and size of your lips.

Lip filler dissolving involves the use of an enzyme called hyaluronidase to break down hyaluronic acid-based fillers. When injected into the treated area, hyaluronidase quickly breaks down the filler material, allowing the body to naturally absorb and remove it.

Pre and Post Appointment Care

Pre Appointment Care

Avoid blood thinning medications such as aspirin and ibuprofen for the 3 days before your treatment, unless instructed otherwise. Avoid alcohol for at least 48 hours before, to further reduce the chances of swelling and bruising.

Refrain from using skincare products containing retinoids, glycolic acid, or any other harsh ingredients near the lip area a few days before your appointment. Drink plenty of water leading up to the treatment, as hydration is very important.

Post Appointment Care

Immediately after the procedure, avoid touching or massaging the treated area. Applying a cold compress can help reduce any swelling or bruising that may occur.

It’s important to stay hydrated and avoid strenuous activities, swimming, excessive alcohol drinking, blood-thinning medications and direct sunlight for at least 24 hours.

Keep your head elevated, especially while sleeping. Refrain from using makeup or skincare products on the treated area for at least 24 hours.

Lip Filler Dissolving – Frequently Asked Questions

Lip filler dissolving is a procedure that involves the use of an enzyme called hyaluronidase to break down and remove hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers from the lips.

This treatment is used when someone is unsatisfied with their lip filler results, experiences complications, or desires to return to their natural lip appearance.

During the procedure, hyaluronidase is injected into the areas where the filler is present, which rapidly breaks down the hyaluronic acid. The body then naturally absorbs and eliminates the dissolved filler material.

This process is relatively quick, with results typically visible within 24 to 48 hours, and it effectively reverses the effects of the original filler, allowing the lips to return to their original, natural state.

Lip filler dissolving is generally well-tolerated, and most patients report only minimal discomfort. To minimise pain, a topical numbing cream is typically applied to the area by one of our aesthetic doctors before the injections. During the procedure, you may feel a slight stinging or burning sensation as the enzyme is injected, but this is usually brief.

Any discomfort is often similar to the initial filler injection and subsides quickly. After the treatment, there might be some tenderness, swelling, or bruising, but these side effects are temporary and resolve within a few days.

Side effects of lip filler dissolving are usually mild and temporary. Common side effects include swelling, redness, and bruising at the injection site, which tend to subside within a few days. Some might experience tenderness or slight discomfort during the initial period following the procedure.

In rare cases, allergic reactions to the enzyme hyaluronidase can occur, leading to more significant swelling or itching. As with any injectable treatment, there is a small risk of injection but this is minimised when the procedure is performed by our expert aesthetic doctors here at Light Touch Clinic.

Yes, your lips typically return to their natural state after dissolving fillers.

The time it takes for your lips to return to normal varies from person to person, but usually, you can see results within 24 to 48 hours after the treatment. In some cases, it may take up to a week for the full effects to become evident.

Refrain from touching or massaging the treated area to prevent irritation and infection. Avoid strenuous physical activities and exercise for at least 24 hours to reduce swelling and bruising.

It’s also important to stay away from alcohol and blood-thinning medications, such as aspirin and ibuprofen, for the same period, as these can exacerbate bruising.

Also, do not apply makeup or skincare products to the treated area for at least 24 hours to reduce the risk of irritation. Keeping your head elevated, especially while sleeping, can help decrease swelling.
