How Exilis Skin Tightening Works
Radiofrequency
Our Exilis skin tightening treatment administers 3.4MHz frequencies at a maximum of 120 Watts to the targeted area, promoting the stimulation and deep heating of tissues within the skin.
Ultrasound
During the Exilis skin tightening treatment, ultrasound is employed to stimulate fat lipolysis, facilitating the breakdown of fat cells, and promoting collagen remodelling for skin tightening.
The Science Behind Exilis Skin Tightening
Exilis combines monopolar radiofrequency (RF) with ultrasound in a single device. It’s a dual-energy approach that targets both the dermis and deeper subcutaneous tissue simultaneously. The RF energy heats the dermis to 40-43°C, causing existing collagen fibres to contract immediately. This then stimulates fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin over the following weeks and months.
A preclinical study on the Exilis Elite published in Lasers in Surgery and Medicine showed that collagen volume nearly tripled (increasing from 9% to 25.9%) after four weekly treatments, confirming the device’s ability to drive significant new collagen production. The patients were tested after the 3-month follow-up period.
A separate clinical study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology validated this dual RF and ultrasound approach across multiple body areas, concluding it was a safe and effective modality for both skin tightening and fat reduction.
The ultrasound component enhances the mechanical disruption of fat cells while the RF simultaneously firms the overlying skin. Side effects are often limited to mild, temporary redness that resolves within hours.
