The Benefits

Cryotherapy is widely recognised as one of the most effective methods for removing warts thanks to its precision, speed, and minimal invasiveness. We use the CryoPen® for treatments at our Surrey clinic — a medical-grade device that delivers a controlled, high-pressure jet of nitrous oxide to freeze and destroy unwanted skin lesions with pinpoint accuracy.

Unlike surgical methods or over-the-counter treatments, cryotherapy targets only the lesion itself without damaging the surrounding tissue. This makes it ideal for use on delicate areas of the body, including the face, neck, and underarms. Avoiding the need for cutting or stitches, CryoPen® offers a safer, faster, and more comfortable solution, helping you achieve smoother skin with minimal downtime.

• Precise, targeted treatment
• Minimally invasive
• Instant results
• Quick procedure time
• Suitable for sensitive areas
• Low risk of scarring

Types of Warts We Treat

Warts can appear almost anywhere on the body, and they vary in appearance depending on type and location. We treat all common forms with CryoPen® cryotherapy:

  • Common warts: Usually appear on hands, fingers, and knuckles. Raised, firm, with a rough surface and sometimes tiny black dots.
  • Plantar warts (verrucas): Found on the soles of the feet. Often flat from pressure and can be painful when walking.
  • Flat warts: Smaller and smoother than common warts. Typically appear in clusters on the face, neck, hands, or legs.
  • Filiform warts: Long, thin, finger-like growths most often found on the face, eyelids, lips, or neck.
  • Periungual warts: Grow around the fingernails and toenails. It can be painful and affect nail growth if left untreated.
  • Mosaic warts: Clusters of small warts (usually verrucas) that have fused on the feet.

Verruca Removal in Surrey

Verrucas are warts on the soles of the feet, caused by the same HPV infection as common warts. Constant pressure from walking pushes them inward, giving them their characteristic flat, hardened surface with tiny black dots in the centre (small clotted blood vessels).

Unlike warts elsewhere on the body, verrucas can be painful when walking, running, or standing for long periods. They also spread easily in warm, damp environments such as swimming pools, communal showers, and gym changing rooms.

We use CryoPen® cryotherapy to freeze the verruca tissue, which then scabs and naturally falls away, often within one to three weeks. Because verrucas tend to be deeper-rooted than common warts, multiple sessions may be needed for full clearance, particularly for larger or longstanding verrucas.

Clusters of fused verrucas (mosaic verrucas) can also be treated, with the approach tailored to size and location at your consultation.

How CryoPen® Treatment Works

Assessment & Preparation

Our practitioner will begin by examining the lesion to confirm it’s suitable for cryotherapy. The surrounding area is then cleansed, and no anaesthetic is usually required due to the minimally invasive nature of the procedure.

Lesion Removal Treatment

We use the CryoPen® to deliver a fine, controlled jet of nitrous oxide directly to the lesion, rapidly freezing the tissue. This process typically takes only a few seconds and causes minimal discomfort.

Natural Elimination of the Lesion

Following treatment, the frozen tissue forms a scab or crust and will naturally fall away over the course of a few days to a couple of weeks, revealing fresh, healthy skin underneath.

Professional Wart Removal vs Over-the-Counter Treatments

Many people try shop-bought wart treatments like salicylic acid solutions, freeze sprays, and plasters before seeking professional help. These can be helpful for some smaller, superficial warts, but they have limitations:

  • Time commitment: Most over-the-counter treatments require daily application over several weeks or months.
  • Less precise application: No clinical applicator makes it difficult to target the lesion without affecting the surrounding skin, which may cause irritation or discomfort.
  • Lower-temperature freezing: Home freeze kits typically reach around -50°C, whereas medical cryotherapy devices like CryoPen® operate at approximately -89°C.
  • No clinical diagnosis: What looks like a wart may be a seborrhoeic keratosis, mole, or other lesion. Self-treating the wrong condition can delay appropriate care.

Wart Removal – Frequently Asked Questions

Warts are small, rough growths on the skin caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). They’re harmless but contagious, spreading through direct contact or shared surfaces like swimming pools and communal showers.

They most commonly appear on the hands, feet, fingers, and knees, and can vary from dome-shaped and firm to flat and flesh-coloured. While not dangerous, warts can be unsightly or uncomfortable, which is why many people choose to have them professionally removed.

CryoPen® is a precise cryotherapy device that uses a high-pressure jet of nitrous oxide to freeze and destroy benign skin lesions such as warts and skin tags. The freezing temperature causes the cells within the lesion to crystallise and break down, leading the body to naturally eliminate the treated tissue. It offers pinpoint accuracy, making it ideal for treating delicate areas with minimal damage to surrounding skin.
Yes, CryoPen® treatment is considered a very safe and effective method for removing benign skin lesions. As it is non-invasive and doesn’t require anaesthetic, the likelihood of complications is low, and most clients experience a straightforward recovery with little to no scarring.
Most clients describe the sensation as a brief stinging or tingling feeling, similar to the sensation of a cold spray on the skin. Discomfort is typically mild and short-lived, lasting only during the freezing process, which usually takes just a few seconds. No anaesthetic is needed, and any post-treatment sensitivity is generally minimal.
The procedure itself is very quick. Treating a single wart or skin tag usually takes less than 30 seconds. For clients with multiple lesions, the full session can often be completed within 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the number and size of the areas being treated.
Many clients see complete removal after just one session, particularly for smaller lesions. However, in some cases – especially with larger or stubborn warts – a follow-up treatment may be required to ensure full clearance. Our practitioner will assess the lesion during your consultation with us and advise accordingly.

Following treatment, the area may appear red or slightly swollen and a scab or crust may form over the lesion. This is part of the natural healing process. Over the course of a few days to a couple of weeks, the treated tissue will fall away, revealing smoother, healthier skin underneath.

At Light Touch Clinic, your comfort, safety, and satisfaction are our top priorities. Our experienced, doctor-led practitioners use the advanced CryoPen® to deliver effective results with minimal discomfort and downtime. We provide personalised care in a discreet, professional setting, ensuring a high standard of aesthetic treatment throughout your journey.
Most clients notice visible results within one to two weeks as the treated lesion naturally falls away and the skin heals. For some, especially where a second session is needed, results may take a little longer to develop fully.
CryoPen® offers several advantages over traditional removal methods, such as cutting, cauterisation, or chemical treatments. It is quicker, more precise, and less invasive, with a reduced risk of scarring or infection. It’s also suitable for more delicate or visible areas, making it a highly versatile option.
The technique is identical, but verrucas often require longer freezing times and more sessions because the wart tissue extends deeper into the skin. We’ll discuss the expected number of sessions during your consultation, which depends on the size, depth, and number of verrucas.
There is minimal to no downtime with CryoPen® treatment. Most clients return to work or daily activities immediately afterwards. While the treated area should be left undisturbed and protected from direct sun exposure, there’s usually no need to change your routine beyond basic aftercare.
Yes, CryoPen® is particularly well-suited for treating lesions on sensitive areas such as the face, neck, eyelids, and underarms due to its precision. The targeted nature of the device ensures only the lesion is treated, reducing the risk of damage to surrounding skin.
Side effects are rare and typically mild, but may include redness, swelling, or temporary skin pigmentation changes. In rare cases, blistering or scabbing may occur. CryoPen® treatment carries a low risk of complications and is generally very well tolerated.
Once a lesion is successfully treated and removed, it is unlikely to return in the same spot. However, new warts or skin tags may develop elsewhere over time, especially if you are prone to them. Follow-up treatments can be arranged with us if needed.
Yes, in addition to warts and skin tags, CryoPen® can also be used to treat a variety of benign skin imperfections, including cherry angiomas, milia, seborrheic keratoses, and sun spots. Our practitioner will confirm suitability during your consultation.
CryoPen® can be used on most skin types and tones. However, caution may be advised for darker skin tones due to the risk of temporary or permanent pigmentation changes. During your consultation, our practitioner will assess your skin type and provide personalised advice.
As a precaution, we do not recommend CryoPen® treatment during pregnancy or breastfeeding. While the procedure is low risk, it’s best to delay non-essential aesthetic treatments until after this period unless medically advised otherwise.
After treatment, it’s important to keep the area clean and dry, avoid picking at any scabs, and protect the skin from sun exposure. Our practitioner will provide full aftercare instructions to support proper healing and minimise the risk of scarring or pigmentation changes.
Yes, but please cover the treated area with a waterproof plaster or verruca sock when using communal pools, showers, or gym facilities to prevent spreading the virus. Avoid sharing towels, socks, or shoes until the verruca has fully resolved.
Yes, multiple lesions can often be treated in a single session, depending on their number, size, and location. Our practitioner will assess this during your consultation and provide a treatment plan that’s both safe and effective.
