Dermal fillers provide stunning facial rejuvenation results, offering natural, long-lasting enhancement from a single treatment. Juvéderm is one of the most popular choices of dermal filler. The Juvéderm range offers natural but noticeable enhancements for facial rejuvenation.

These hyaluronic acid-based fillers are designed for different purposes and areas of the face, and the duration of their effects can vary based on the specific product used and the area treated.

Gaining a deeper understanding of Juvéderm treatments, the type of filler best suited for your needs, and how it interacts with your skin’s unique structure is important for managing expectations for treatment longevity.

Individual experiences with Juvéderm may vary from person to person, so it’s important to consult with an expert practitioner before your treatment.

At Light Touch Clinic our doctor-led injectors assess our patients on a case-by-case basis to create custom treatment plans that maximise results and align with expectations.

What Is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is a leading brand of hyaluronic acid fillers. It is primarily used as a facial injectable that addresses various signs of ageing while rejuvenating and hydrating the skin.

Juvéderm is one of few FDA-approved injectables that provides long-lasting results, with a result duration of up to 24 months.

Juvéderm is injected directly into the target treatment area and begins to work immediately, with results peaking at around 2 weeks post-treatment.

Understanding Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are a category of substances that are injected beneath the skin’s surface to smooth wrinkles, add volume to soft tissue, and enhance facial contours. Juvéderm falls into the category of dermal fillers and offers a great solution for facial rejuvenation, offering long-lasting anti-ageing effects that are noticeable yet natural.

Juvéderm & Hyaluronic Acid

Juvéderm fillers are formulated with hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance found in your skin. This natural compound can retain moisture—up to 1,000 times its weight in water—which supports your skin’s hydration, plumpness, and elasticity. Juvéderm injections use this property to smooth lines and replenish volume loss, resulting in a youthful and supple complexion.

Benefits & Uses of Juvéderm

Juvéderm is used to address a variety of cosmetic concerns related to facial ageing. It can effectively diminish the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, enhance lips, and improve facial contouring.

“I am a big fan of the Juvederm range and have used their fillers on my patients for many years. When it comes to deciding which products to use in my clinic my criteria is always safety first followed by great results.”

Areas of Treatment

Juvéderm can be used in multiple areas to revitalise the skin’s appearance. These include:

  • Nasolabial folds: The lines that run from the sides of your nose to the corners of your mouth.
  • Marionette lines: Lines that extend from the corners of your mouth down to the chin.
  • Cheeks: To restore lost volume and enhance contours.
  • Perioral area: The region around the mouth for smoothing lines.

Each treatment area benefits from Juvéderm’s ability to smooth and add volume, allowing for a youthful and refreshed look.

Facial Contouring

Juvéderm fillers are designed to sculpt and define your facial contours. With a base of hyaluronic acid, they perform by:

  • Boosting skin elasticity: Hyaluronic acid helps to retain moisture and stimulate collagen production.
  • Adding volume to cheeks: This can lift the facial structure, reducing sagging and restoring a youthful curve to your cheeks.
  • Redefining the jawline: Injections can provide a more defined and firm appearance.

Lip Enhancement

For those seeking fuller, more defined lips, Juvéderm injectable fillers offer tailored solutions that:

  • Enhance the shape of your lips, offering a natural fullness.
  • Smooth out vertical lip lines, often referred to as ‘lipstick lines’.

Juvéderm lip treatment creates a balanced appearance that complements a natural facial structure while aiming to maintain a realistic and aesthetically pleasing outcome.

How Long Does Juvéderm Last?

Juvéderm is often chosen for its longevity, with some results lasting for up to 24 months. However, the duration of Juvéderm’s effects can vary, influenced by several key factors, and often varying from person to person.

“My go-to products are Juvederm Volbella, which gives a light natural lip-filling treatment. For the cheeks, I prefer to use Juvederm Voluma as it will give more lift but it’s still soft enough to give a very smooth and natural look. When it comes to filling the jawline and chin, I would choose Juvederm Volux where we often need a stronger filler to give more structure and support.”

Typically, the results from Juvéderm will be visible anywhere from 12-24 months, depending on the Juvéderm product that is used. Touch-up appointments are usually recommended to lengthen the duration of your results.

Juvéderm Type Duration of results
Juvéderm Voluma Approximately 24 months with a touch-up treatment required at 12 months.
Juvéderm Ultra Approximately 12 months, with a touch-up required at 6–9 months.
Juvéderm Vollure Approximately 12–18 months.
Juvéderm Volbella Approximately 12 months.

It is also possible to extend the duration of your results by following the appropriate after-treatment care. You should always follow the instructions provided by your injector, as they can often vary on a case-by-case basis.

They will typically involve avoiding excessive sun exposure, strenuous activity, and putting pressure on injection sites for 2-3 days post-treatment.

It can be beneficial to maintain a daily skincare routine after your treatment to prolong results. Light Touch Clinic offers a range of skin-friendly, envigorating products in our store. Speak to one of our skincare experts to find the most suitable products for your skin.

Factors Affecting Duration

Location of Injection

Juvéderm fillers tend to last longer in areas with:

  • Less movement (e.g. cheeks vs lips)
  • Thinner skin

Individual Factors

The longevity of Juvéderm also depends on a range of personal health and lifestyle factors including:

  • Your metabolic rate: This will dictate how fast Juvéderm is broken down by your body
  • Lifestyle habits: Smoking, unhealthy diet, and sun exposure can all lead to a faster breakdown of Juvéderm
  • Amount of product used: Smaller quantities of Juvéderm will naturally break down faster than larger amounts.

Maintaining Your Results

To help maintain the results of your treatment it is important to consider:

  • Hydration: Keep your skin well-hydrated to help maintain volume and moisture.
  • Touch-Ups: Periodic touch-up treatments can help prolong Juvéderm’s effects.
  • Sun Protection: Protect your skin from sun damage to prolong the filler’s aesthetic.
  • Follow-Up Appointments: Regular appointments with your practitioner can help manage and maintain a natural look over time.

Administering the Treatment

Before you receive Juvéderm injections, it’s important to understand the procedure, post-treatment care, and possible minor side effects

The Injection Process

During your treatment, Juvéderm is injected into the target areas of your skin. The specific product is chosen based on the target area and desired outcome. An initial consultation will help pinpoint the areas that require enhancement, such as lip filler or cheek volume.

The injections are quick, with a full area treated in approximately 15 to 60 minutes. During the injection process, you might experience mild discomfort; however, we offer local anaesthetic creams to help numb the area before treatment.

Post-Injection Care

After receiving injections, you should avoid strenuous activity and exposure to high heat or cold. Using an ice pack can help reduce any swelling or bruising – the most noticeable of which should disappear within a few days.

You should avoid pressing or massaging the treated areas to prevent the risk of spreading the product to unintended areas. Most patients can return to daily activities shortly after the appointment, with minimal downtime.

Possible Side Effects

Post-treatment, it’s common to experience side effects like redness, tenderness, swelling, bruising, or discolouration at the injection site(s). These side effects typically resolve completely within two weeks.

“The great thing about using Juvederm is that if we ever get a result we don’t want (and I’m experienced and secure enough to admit to that) we have ways of dissolving the filler. This fact alone gives people great comfort when choosing their practitioner and the dermal filler.”

Severe side effects are rare; however, you should report any extreme or persistent symptoms to your injector immediately. Follow your practitioner’s aftercare instructions to minimise any potential complications and ensure the best result from your Juvéderm treatment.
