About Acne
Acne affects 80% of teenagers due to hormonal shifts during puberty. However, it can also persist into adulthood. This is especially true among women experiencing hormonal fluctuations from pregnancy, menstrual cycles, menopause, or conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). And for men, it’s from hormonal changes also, particularly fluctuations in testosterone.
Acne occurs when pores are blocked, often by harmless bacteria. This leads to a range of outcomes such as spots, blackheads, papules, pustules, or cysts. Hormonal changes are the main cause. As sebum mixes with dead skin cells, this can clog pores and lead to bacterial infections. Acne severity varies, ranging from mild to severe, with different treatment options available based on classification.
Many of the treatments we offer can also be used on acne scarring as well as active acne. Treating during the active phase means we can prevent any scarring or further scarring.
We will conduct a full assessment during a pre-treatment consultation, which will determine the type of acne that you have and the approach that will need to be taken.
