The Science Behind Microneedling

Microneedling, formally known as percutaneous collagen induction therapy, works by creating thousands of microscopic punctures in the skin. Each tiny channel triggers a controlled wound-healing response. This releases growth factors that activate fibroblasts and stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin, without damaging the skin’s surface.

A study published in the Indian Dermatology Online Journal found that four microneedling sessions, one month apart, led to a remarkable 400% increase in collagen and elastin deposition at six months, alongside a thickened epidermis that persisted at one year.

A comprehensive 2024 review of clinical applications confirmed that microneedling not only improves collagen deposition and skin elasticity over time, but also promotes neovascularisation (the formation of new blood vessels). This enhances nutrient delivery and supports healthier, more vibrant skin.

Because the epidermis remains intact, side effects are often limited to short-lived redness and minor sensitivity, making it suitable for a wide range of skin types and concerns from fine lines and acne scars to enlarged pores and uneven texture.

What does the treatment feel like and will it hurt?

We apply a topical anaesthetic to keep you comfortable. You may feel warmth and a light prickling as the energy is delivered. Most people find it very manageable and the treatment usually takes 30 to 45 minutes once numb.

How many RF microneedling sessions will I need?

A course of three sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart, is typical for general rejuvenation. Acne scarring may need three to six sessions.

A professional, friendly and welcoming clinic!! I have been going to Light Touch Clinic now for over 6 years. The advice and support I have received is first class and I honestly feel in safe hands when talking through different products and treatments available. I was suffering with really bad skin and constant break outs that were really effecting me.
